Awareness of Final-Year Medical Students of Omdurman Islamic University on Their Career Choices

Background: Medical students undergo a complex process as student to make career decision and pursue further specialization. This study explores the factors that influence choices of two genders studying in final year medicine at Omdurman Islamic University.Methods: institution-based cross-sectional was conducted on 194 male female fifth-year medical University. The questionnaire contains 15 multiple-choice questions determine affecting students’ – lifestyle, income, family impact,…etc. association between gender specialties they choose pursue.Results: were preferred following order: surgery by 22.9%, internal 18.3%, obstetric gynecology 13.8%, pediatric 10% (limited four major specialties). least chosen histopathology, emergency medicine, psychiatry, anesthesia (all 0.9%). Family forensics not any participant. Females significantly dermatology, obstetrics gynecology, otolaryngology, pediatrics compared their counterparts. Whereas, males females orthopedics surgery. influencing change based views obligations. Nearly 80% personal interest; lifestyle financial reward also seen play an important role choosing specialty. About 91% participants agreed there is need for guidance. A great proportion final-year (62%) specialize abroad related it good stability.Conclusion: showed awareness about specialty limited certain literature. most (22.9%), (18.3%), (13.8%), (10%). There are many selection specialties, however, common one interest followed issues reward. Additionally, significant difference career-choice decisions.
